Observation of World Mental Health Day 2025

The Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing, MAHE, 必威体育betway888, conducted events on account of World Mental Health Day 2025 for two consecutive days on 10th and 15th Oct 2025, under the theme “Access to Services—Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies". It emphasises the urgent need for mental health support in crisis situations like natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies. This programme is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4(Quality Education).
On October 10, 2025, World Mental Health Day was observed at the psychiatry inpatient unit, Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888, for the inmates and the caregivers. Mrs Asha K. Nayak, Assistant Professor, Senior Scale, highlighted the importance of access to mental health services during humanitarian crises. Various games and activities for the inmates were conducted by I & II year MSc nursing students, and the prizes were distributed by Dr Binil V, HoD, and Additional Professor, Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing, 必威体育betway888, MAHE. A total of 18 inmates and their caregivers participated in the programme. Ms Archana K R 1st year MSc Nursing student, was the master of the ceremony for the programme. The programme was coordinated by Ms Asha K Nayak and Dr Binil V.
A Workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Self-Management for the NSS Volunteers of MAHE, 必威体育betway888, was organised by the Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON, MAHE, in association with the Department of Psychiatry, KMC, 必威体育betway888, and the NSS Unit of MCON, MAHE, on 15th October 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The facilitators for the session were Dr Soyuz John, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, KMC, MAHE, 必威体育betway888; Dr Umesh Thonse, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, KMC, MAHE, 必威体育betway888; and Mrs Prathibha L. Braggs, Lecturer, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health)Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 必威体育betway888. A total of 63 delegates registered and actively participated in the workshop. The sessions covered various topics, including types of disasters, principles of disaster preparedness, and strategies for self-management during crises. Interactive activities and discussions helped participants enhance their understanding and readiness for real-life scenarios. The programme was compered by Mrs. Prathibha L. Braggs. The workshop was well-received by all participants and concluded successfully with positive feedback and active engagement from the NSS volunteers.
Rangoli and Ring Toss competition was held for the residents of Hombelaku on 30th Sept 2025, as part of the WMHD observation program. These competitions were coordinated by Mrs Flavia S Noronha and Mrs Asha K Nayak, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON. A total of three members in each four groups participated in the competition.
