必威体育betway888 College of Nursing (MCON), 必威体育betway888 Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), 必威体育betway888, organized the 10th Curriculum Conclave on November 12, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1.00 PM. The curriculum plays a vital role in the education system of every institution, serving as a framework that outlines the structure, content, and sequence of learning experiences for students.

Dr. Linu Sara George, Professor and Head, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, and Pillar 1 Head, Excellence in Education, MCON, welcomed the gathering. An overview of the curriculum conclave and introduction to the resource person was provided by Mrs. Janet Alva, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON and Convenor of the conclave. Dr. Savitha Prabhu, Assistant Professor-Senior Scale, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, and Co-convenor of the conclave, proposed a vote of thanks.

"The curriculum is like the wind—something we can feel but cannot see; it is dynamic and collaborative," said Dr. Sreejith Govindan, Deputy Registrar – Evaluation, Health Sciences, MAHE, 必威体育betway888, and Associate Professor of Microbiology, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, MAHE, 必威体育betway888, who was the resource person at the conclave. He emphasized that the curriculum has evolved from the 5‘D’s: Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny. He elaborated on those steps through Appreciative Inquiry with small and large group discussions.

Appreciative inquiry is?a collaborative based approach to organizational change, that emphasizes positive idea generation and focuses on building on what is already working, rather than identifying and solving problems.?Dr. Sreejith facilitated discussions on the strengths of the current curriculum followed at MCON, focusing on the positive core of the present teaching-learning strategies and assessment components. He also discussed planning changes in the curriculum, considering feasibility and the drafting of a new competency-based education curriculum.

Dr Sreejith, as a moderator for the panel discussion, along with the panelists, Dr. Vimal Krishnan, Associate Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888, and Dr. Anil Raj A, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, deliberated on various aspects of simulation-based learning (SBL) such as the integration of SBL in the undergraduate nursing curriculum, facilitating factors to implement SBL and incorporating SBL as a continuous formative assessment method.

Dr. Sreejith also highlighted the alignment of Course Outcomes (CO) with program outcomes (PO), ensuring that the curriculum meets both academic and professional standards. He further highlighted competency-based education (CBE) which is considered the need of the hour in which he emphasized refining and adapting the evaluation process with a focus on student feedback, faculty development, and the integration of new educational technologies.?

Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Professor & Dean, MCON, delivered the concluding remarks with a note on the importance of continuing collaboration to maintain high standards in academic and program evaluation.

The curriculum conclave 2024 contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education, with 75 stakeholders including faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students, alumni members, and medical and nursing mentors from Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888, who actively participated throughout the discussion. Ms. Jessica Clara Banz, Lecturer, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, compered the program.?
