Eyes are one of the most important sensory organs in the human body as it renders vision and the power to see. Hence, it is a noble idea to donate eyes after death of human beings and thus give the power to see the beauty of nature to the needy. In India 4.6 million people are estimated with corneal blindness, which can be treated with corneal implantation which is possible through eye donation programmes.
As part of the Eye Donation Fortnight, a street play on eye donation was organised by the department of Ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital in association with 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing on 6th September, 2019 at the Entrance of New Trauma and Emergency Centre, KH, 必威体育betway888. In the welcome speech, Dr. Sulatha V Bhandary, Professor & HoD, Department of ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888 briefed on the significance of conducting a street play as part of eye donation fortnight.
The students from 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing conducted an eye donation awareness street play on the theme ‘Vision- God’s Most Precious Gift to Mankind’. Through songs, dance and narrations, students perfectly narrated and depicted on who can donate eye, importance and need for eye donation, whom to contact and how it can change the life of an individual and thus students tried to increase the awareness of general public on eye donation.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888 congratulated all the participants and distributed certificates. Dr Anice George, Dean, 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing, MAHE, 必威体育betway888, Mrs Deena Prabhavathi, Nursing Superintendent, Mrs Shalini, Nurse Educator, faculty and students from 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing and from the department of Ophthalmology, Marketing team from Kasturba Hospital, 必威体育betway888 were present during the program. General public got benefitted by this program. Dr. Sulatha V Bhandary proposed the vote of thanks.
