World Cancer Day theme: ‘Close the Care Gap’

World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on the 4th of February to create awareness on cancer and its prevention.

The Department of Community Health Nursing and students of 4th year BSc Nursing, 必威体育betway888 College of Nursing, MAHE, 必威体育betway888 conducted a Radio awareness programme on cancer and its prevention on 3rd February 2023. The programme was broadcasted by Community Radio, 必威体育betway888 at 90.4 MHz on February 04, 2023, from 5.00 pm onwards and re-telecasted on February 05, 2023, at 1 pm.

The department also organized a cancer awareness programme on 4th February 2023 at Community Health Center, Brahmavara. The programme was inaugurated with a prayer song and Dr Mahesh Ithal, Medical Officer CHC Brahmavara, spoke on cancer, its causes and prevention. Followed by his talk, a role play on the prevention of breast cancer and breast self-examination was done by the students. After the inaugural session, posters were displayed at the OPD of the CHC on causes of cancer, signs and symptoms, diagnostic measures, and prevention of cancer. A total of 98 people participated in the event. The 4th year BSc Nursing students were involved in a poster presentation and explained to the participants. The entire event was coordinated by Dr Malathi G Nayak, Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE.
