Agomoni is a new addition to MIC’s bounty of events, which attempts to replicate the essence and glory of Durga Puja and the manner it is celebrated in Bengal and by the Bengali diaspora. Initiated in 2023, this homely celebration was organized for the second time this year with great oomph and joy.
Students and faculty staged mesmerizing performances including a dance drama highlighting Shadripu or the six sins in Hindu theology which prevent man from attaining moksha or salvation. Popular Pujo songs were sung by Unplugged, the official music club of MIC. Womenfolk of MIC dressed in the Bengali shada lal saree and danced to the energizing tunes of the dhaak.
The Director of MIC, Dr. Padma Rani, addressed the gathering on the importance of Navratri and Durga Puja and wished everyone a prosperous festive season. At the end of the event, the organizers of the event shouted a popular Bangla phrase which is typically chanted at the end of Durga Puja - “asche bochor abaar hobe!” or “It will happen again next year!”- with the hope of renewing the energy and joy surrounding Agomoni in the next academic year.
