Nikon conducts a Product Photography Workshop at MIC

September 27, 2024

MIC organized a Product Photography workshop on Sep 27, 2024 for select students of UG and PG programs. The session started with an engaging Q&A session; the resource person, a Technical Mentor at Nikon, Mr Sterin tested the audience's understanding of photography basics. He covered essential topics such as color theory, image formats, and lighting techniques. To simplify the concept of image formats, he used an amusing analogy, comparing a RAW format image to a raw chicken, full of potential, and a JPEG to a perfectly cooked chicken curry, ready to enjoy. This light-hearted comparison amused the audience and made the concept more relatable. The session was highly engaging, with Sterin encouraging attendees to actively participate during his demonstrations, making it a lively, hands-on experience. In addition, Sterin introduced a new technique called "shutter drag," particularly useful in fashion photography, which piqued the interest of the fashion enthusiasts in the session. He emphasized how mastering these techniques could enhance the overall quality of their work, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for all attendees. Sterin shared practical tips for e-commerce photography, offering valuable insights on how to capture high-quality product images for e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon. He also introduced portrait photography techniques, explaining various lighting styles like Rembrandt and Paramount, which fascinated the attendees with their impact on creating mood and depth in portraits. The audience was particularly impressed by these concepts, as many were previously unfamiliar with the nuances of professional portrait lighting.

Afterward, Sterin invited the attendees to try their hands at taking portrait photographs, allowing them to apply what they had learned. This hands-on experience, combined with his detailed explanations, left the participants with a deeper understanding of both product and portrait photography. ?The workshop was coordinated by faculty members Mr. Vinyasa Hegade, and Mr. Manikandan C. and?facilitated by Dr. Shubha HS, Head BA Program.?
