Linu Sara George is Professor of Psychiatric Nursing and presently holding the position of Head, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing. As an academic leader, she works with the Dean and other Heads of Department to achieve strategic objectives of the college and University.

Effectiveness of emotional intelligence enhancement program

The objectives of the study were to assess the level of emotional intelligence, identify the level of coping strategies, validate and implement a structured emotional intelligence enhancement programme, determine the effectiveness of emotional intelligence programme. A descriptive survey was done among 74 students from first year BSc Nursing students in the first phase. In phase II participants with low and very low emotional intelligence were included for intervention. The result showed that there was significant difference between pre-test and post-test mean scores of emotional intelligence among the participants.
Effectiveness of ambulation during first stage of labour, on the outcome of labour

The main objectives were to monitor the duration of labour and mode of delivery, identify the behavioural response of the primigravid woman during first stage of labour, and find the effectiveness of ambulation during first stage of labour in terms of maternal and neonatal outcome. The study was conducted among 60 primigravid women, 30 each in experimental and control group. Subjects in the experimental group were ambulated for one to one and a half hours with intermittent rest periods. The control group were confined to bed most of the time. The result showed that ambulation reduced the duration of labour.

The objectives of the study were to assess depressive symptoms and social support among medically ill patients. A total of 150 medically ill patients were surveyed. Of the total participants, 64 (42.7%) were normal and 86 (57.3%) had depression, of which 35(23.3%) had severe depression, 19(12.7%) had moderate depression and 32(21.3%) had mild depression.
