The inauguration of the new surgical superspecialty block at Wenlock District Hospital, Mangalore, was held on August 15, 2024. The event was graced by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who emphasized the significance of the new facility in enhancing healthcare services for the region. The seven-storey building, constructed under the Mangaluru Smart City Project, is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology provided by various stakeholders, including KMC Mangalore, a constituent unit of MAHE.
The new facility has 250 beds across its floors, with specialized units for neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, ENT, and urology, among others. The advanced infrastructure includes modular operation theatres, emergency ICUs, and cath labs.
The Dean of KMC Mangalore was among the dignitaries present, reflecting the public private partnership model between KMC Mangalore and District Wenlock Hospital in delivering high-quality healthcare services. This addition is expected to significantly increase the hospital’s capacity to handle complex surgeries and cater to a larger patient base from across the district and beyond.
